About us

Our precious son, Nahum Samson, passed away after a tragic accident. Nahum was our firstborn and the light of our life. Nahum’s death has robbed us our ability to carry out our parenting role as it is supposed to be, duties that we expected to fulfill for many more years. It has crushed our hopes, dreams and expectations for our beloved son. In his very short period of time on this earth, Nahum had the privileges to access tons of resources unlike underprivileged children in Ethiopia. To honor our precious son Nahum’s memory, we started a foundation to support and advocate for underprivileged children with developmental delays and disabilities in Ethiopia. The Nahum Samson Memorial Foundation is our renewed sense of purpose in our journey to find grace and hope within this life-altering experience. 

A report released by UNICEF in 2019 revealed, in Ethiopia 88% of children live in severe poverty lacking access to at least three of the fundamental needs such as adequate nutrition, shelter, health services and education. In low-income countries like Ethiopia, providing adequate support for children with developmental disorders is a major challenge. The majority of children with developmental disorder in Ethiopia are never formally diagnosed and receive no formal support . In addition to the challenges of raising a child with developmental disorder, parents experience some form of stigmatization within their own family as well as from the general public due to misconceptions of the causes of developmental disorders. Lack of health service provision, lack of access to education, lack of awareness and high level of stigma are major challenges for children with developmental disorders and their families in Ethiopia.

We believe with the right treatment plan and support in place, children with developmental disorders can lead very fulfilling lives. With your donations, we hope to give underprivileged children with developmental delays and disabilities a shot at a bright future by raising awareness, increasing understanding & acceptance of people with developmental disorders and supporting implementation of timely screening, early interventions and rehabilitation services in Ethiopia.
